About Us Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), declared a Deemed-to-be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, was set up under Department of Space, Goverment of India in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Started in 2007, it is the first space university in Asia and only the third in the world. Led by luminaries like former President, Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam as Chancellor and former Director of the Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Dr B N Suresh as Director, IIST is fast developing into one of the premier institutes in the country. Conscientia Conscientia is the annual science and technology festival of IIST. Conscientia is the Latin word for ‘knowledge’. Man, as we all know, is inquisitive by nature. This quest is for knowledge of everything that is yet unknown, a thirst for understanding the world around him, and an indomitable spirit that lies behind all development in science and technology. Started in 2009 on a small scale, this year, Conscientia has expanded exponentially and has become a melting pot for talent, experience and novitiate from across the country's academia and industry. Into the Unknown Aimed at the convergence of budding talent in the fields of both science and technology to trigger innovation, Conscientia is a tribute to that pursuit of knowledge, a journey into the unknown, a discovery of that which is lurking in the dark waiting to be uncovered. Logo The Conscientia logo, a stylised heavenly body with multi-coloured orbits around it shaped to give the impression of a bird in flight, is an abstract symbol of all this festival stands for. The multitude of disciplines and their convergence are represented by the orbits, as is our inherent association with space science and technology, while the bird in flight symbolises the journey into the unknown, beyond barriers. |
